Lately my skin has really been acting up, not like the occasional hormonal "period" zits that pop up once a month but full on acne running down the sides of my face and my T-zone. Of course, like any other 20 something year old, I was horrified so I decide to look into my skin care and consulted a dermatologist to get some advice.
1. Wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and another time at night.
- You can use an antibacterial face cleanser and//or you could use and anti-zit face cleanser (you know, the ones that have Salicylic Acid for acne treatment). My favorite at the moment is the Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub.
2. Change your pillow cases often.
- This is probably something that you didn't know related to your skin but in actuality it plays a major role. Why? When we sleep we tend to toss and turn, and more often than not our faces are on our pillows. You might think that your pillow case is clean, you just sleep on it for 6-10 hours right? Well unfortunately it isn't, people drool on their pillows... not to mention that whether your hair is clean or not it secretes all sorts of oils that get on your pillow and rub against your face. Ideally, it is advised that your change your pillow case ever 2-3 days.
3. Eat Clean and drink ALOT of water.
- Everyone has heard the saying "You are what your eat!", well yes you are. If you eat poorly it will reflect on your skin, and also your body. Eating healthy is a conscious choice you can make to improve your overall health. Drinking water is also very important when it comes to your skin, from all the hydration water gives your radiant, healthy, younger looking skin.
4. Don't pick//pop pimples.
- I am guilty as charged in this area, if I see it I squeeze it. This is probably one of the worst things you could possibly do if you want clear skin. You can be the cleanest person on the face of the Earth, you could be a surgeon and wash your hands thousands of times a day but germs will always linger... especially under your finger nails. Picking and popping your pimples with your fingers or even tools that are meant for such actions could give you a nasty infection which could cause ugly scarring.
5. Let your skin breath!
- This one is equally if not more important than the other 4 tips. Ladies and gentlemen let your skin breath! I know we live in a era where makeup is shoved down our throats. Yes, makeup can make you look amazing and it helps us with our self-esteem... trust me I get it, but every once in a while we need to let our skin breath. Makeup is composed of chemicals, no matter what the price tag says makeup is a foreign substance that clogs up our pores. Bottom line, as much as you may want to don't use makeup everyday.
A couple of side tips that could help are:
- Make sure you completely remove all your makeup, the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes are amazing for any type of skin especially if you have sensitive skin.
- If you feel your acne is out of control, consult a dermatologist.
The dermatologist that I saw was able to prescribe me a medicated gel called Epiduo that I apply every night to help clear my skin.
I hope these tips could help anyone who wants to take better care of their skin, good luck!

How you finding Epiduo? I need to go to the doctors I think as mine are getting out of control. I just don't fancy strolling in with no makeup on aha! Cleaning your phone screen is another good tip as it can get pretty dirty!

Hi Sophie! I have been on Epiduo for about a week now and I can already see a lot of improvement on my skin so I am 100% for it. Thanks for the tip! That is definitely a really good one!
